Optus Announces BETTER PRICING for iPhone 3G Plan in Australia.
Optus Australia have announced a new $40 a month plan for the new 3G iPhone, with NO Upfront costs. What this means is you'll be able to get your hands on a new 3G iPhone, on a $40 a month plan, without paying anything for the iPhone.
Whilst this is good news, what should be explained is that Optus do not have the same high-speed data network as Telstra, which means slower speeds on the Optus Network. Although your email and internet won't load as fast when surfing wirelessly via optus, it may be a compromise some are happy with.
The fact remains, no matter which network you choose to go with, DATA WILL BE EXPENSIVE. All plans released via both Telstra & Optus allow a certain amount of data, after which point an extra cost per megabyte will be incurred. Everybody who gets the new iPhone on a contract will need to be extra careful to watch how much data they use, otherwise they may end up with a HEFTY bill.
The other option is to go with a prepaid iPhone - once you use your data allowance for the month, you're run out of credit. This will be a better way to economize your month iPhone cost, and a much safer option overall.
